What is Bubble Tea?

You can hardly walk a block without seeing a bubble tea shop when traveling to Taiwan, but what exactly is it?

The popular beverage dates back to the early 80s.  Taiwanese tea makers would rapidly shake the tea to mix around the flavors, which created bubbles at the top… hence… bubble tea.  Tapioca pearls (boba), lychee jelly, and other add-ins started entering the picture by the late 80s, and now the beverage is popular in eastern and western cultures alike.

While the tasty beverage might set you back a pretty penny in certain parts of the world, you can snag it in Taiwan for 50NTD, which is around $1.50 usd.   Who can say no to that?!

Bubble tea is a Taiwanese staple that shouldn’t be passed up!
