YOKOHAMA (TOKYO)
For many, Yokohama will be the start/end point of your Asian cruise adventure. While it is often viewed as a gateway to Tokyo, which is located 18 mi/ 30 km north, Yokohama is the country’s second largest city by population, with 3.8 million residents.
Known historically as a key shipping port in international trade during the Meiji Period, Yokohama today is a vibrant city with numerous shopping, dining, and sightseeing options. There are quirky museums (we recommend the Cup of Noodles museum!), large scale shopping opportunities at the World Porters Mall, boutique shopping and dining at the redeveloped Red Brick Warehouses, and even Japan’s most visited Chinatown.
Keep an eye out for special seasonal events. Yokohama is known for its annual Garden Necklace Flower Festival as well as the Yokohama Beerfest. If you are visiting in late March/ early April, take a walk along the Ooka River down a path lined with 500 Cherry Blossom trees.
Finishing your cruise in Yokohama? Coming soon we are writing our guide to transport away from Yokohama to Tokyo hotels and Narita / Haneda airports, check back soon!
