Charlotte Amalie, ST THOMAS

Charlotte Amalie (pronounced Ah-mahl-yah), is not only the capital and largest city in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but also the home of multiple cruise ports to get out and explore the wonders of this amazing island.

Cruise ships will dock at either Crown Bay, to the left of Charlotte Amalie, or Havensight, to the right. Check with your cruise line ahead of time if you are making independent travel plans and need to know your docking location in advance.

Havensight is the larger of the two docking areas, where it is common to see 3 large cruise ships each day in peak season tied up alongside the pier here. Havensight Pier is 1.5 miles / 2.5km from downtown Charlotte Amalie, whilst Crown Bay Marina is 1.8 miles / 3km out of town. If you’re feeling active, you can walk from both ports into town, alternatively there are plenty of taxis available from both locations. For options of what to see and do on your visit to the island, beaches are often on the top of most peoples list. The stunning Magen’s Bay often appears on many ‘Top 10 beaches in the world’ lists. Coki Beach is a great option for snorkeling, and other options include Lindquist Beach, Sapphire Beach and Lindberg Beach, just to name a few. Please note however some beaches do charge an access fee.

Other appealing active options here including zip-lining tours, a visit to Coral World Ocean Park, or a trip up the cable car near Havensight to Paradise Point.
