Shimizu is a small, yet friendly and welcoming town that is notable for it's views of Mount Fuji from the ship on a clear, sunny day.

The immediate port area is bare aside from a small shopping arcade with sushi restaurants upstairs above a handful of local shops, and it is a wise idea to look into touring options.

There are a handful of nearby shrines. If time permits, venturing 45 mi/ 70 km away to Hakone National Park to get a closer look at Mt. Fuji can be a highlight.

If the ship is only calling into Shimizu for a short day, you can still snag good views of Mr. Fuji at the coastal viewing area of Miho No Matsubara, which is 3 mi/ 5 km from the port. Or, perhaps head south to the larger city of Shizuoka to see the Sunpu Castle Park for a good dose of history.

TIP: Keep an eye out for services upon arrival at the port- often you can try on a traditional Kimono inside the Marine Terminal building on the pier for a free photo opportunity!
