SAKAIMINATO

Sakaiminato is a small port city in the Tottori Prefecture with a population of 35,000 people. It is notably the home town of Mizuki, a famous historian and Manga artist best known as the creator of the character GeGeGe no Kitaro.

Along the main road that runs through the downtown area, you will see various statues dedicated to his work as well as a museum. This quirky downtown district is 2 mi/ 3 km away from the port, and often a shuttle will be offered by your cruise line.

There are travel opportunities in the greater region, including the Tottori Prefectural Flower Park, the Yushien Garden, the Miho Shrine, and the Adachi Museum of Art. All of these sites will require transportation, as they are located outside Sakaiminato.

The most visited site accessible through Sakaiminato is the Matsue Castle, which dates back to 1611. It is one of the rare original castles in Japan that has not been rebuilt due to outside damages from war or fire.
