PUERTO QUETZAL, Guatemala
Puerto Quetzal is Guatemala’s largest Pacific Ocean port that is important for both cargo traffic and cruise liners. One of the main reasons cruise ships dock in Puerto Quetzal is its proximity to Antigua, which is 50mi/80 km north.
Antigua has beautiful colonial style architecture and cobblestone streets, and there are majestic volcanoes looming on all sides. Sites to visit include La Merced Church, Casa Santo Domingo, and the Craft and Central Market. And be sure to try some of the local cuisine! We recommend pepian de pollo, which is a spiced chicken stew and the national dish of Guatemala
If you don’t want to venture into Antigua, be prepared for a slower paced day, as there isn’t much to do in Puerto Quetzal apart from browning around a handful of shops and restaurants.
