LOMBOK

Lombok is located 22mi/ 35 km from Bali, and is often referred to as Bali’s underrated, sleepy cousin. Like Bali, Lombok has temples, beaches, waterfalls, and mountains, but you will find more peace and quiet on this island as compared to its famous neighbor.

While Lombok used to be a tender port, a purpose-built cruise facility was developed to accommodate tourism. (Note: The photos below are of the tender port facilities prior to the docking facility being built.)

If you are looking for a beach day, you can head along the southern coast to Kuta Beach and Pantaii Ann, or perhaps go north to the beach resort town of Senggigi for diving and snorkeling. You may also be interested in heading 15 mi/ 24 km north to the island’s capital of Mataram to sites such as Pura Meru, Taman Mayura Water Palace, and the Museum of West Nusa Tenggara, which is a provincial museum with exhibits on geology, history, and culture.

Note that the infrastructure around the port area is limited, and if you are not on a ship tour or have a private arrangement, we recommend hiring a driver for a set amount of time to take you around the island.

When googling Lombok, you will come across the Gili Islands, which consist of Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. This small island chain is a popular tourist destination, and there are daily public ferries and fastboats that go between Bali, Lombok, and the Gilis. However, it is a 30 mi/ 50 km drive from the cruise port to the ferry port Teluk Kode, then an additional ferry ride to the islands. While it is technically possible, you would spend the vast majority of your day in transit.

Whether you grab a snorkel and hit the beach or dive into Indonesian culture with a trip to the capital, Lombok is a port to look forward to!
