KOCHI
Kochi is a historic castle town at the end of the Urado Bay on Japan’s Shikoku Island with a population of 335,000 people.
While the surrounding areas of Kochi are rural, the city has a handful of sightseeing options with the highlight being Kochi-jo, Japan’s best-preserved feudal castle that dates back to the 1600s.
In walking distance from the castle, you will find the Hirome Market, Chikurinji Temple, and the Makino Botanical Garden. From there, consider heading east to go up Mount Godaisan for views overlooking the city.
There are a handful of docking locations, all of which are outside the bay, and the heart of the city is 6 mi/ 9.5 km away. Your cruise line will likely offer a shuttle service, but taxis will be available as well.
While the downtown area is relatively compact and walkable, taxis will be readily available, or you can hop on the tourist dedicated bus service called “My Yu Bus”.
Check with the local visitor information staff at the port upon arrival for day pass details.
