KOBE

Kobe is Japan’s sixth largest city by population with 1.5 million people. While you’ve likely heard of the infamous Kobe beef, the city has much more to offer than a great culinary scene.

Enjoy strolling down the western influenced streets and the scenic views provided by the city’s locale between the Rokko Mountain Range and the sea. Or perhaps visit the Nada Sake district and Soraku-en Garden. Another site that may pique your interest is the Earthquake Memorial Museum, which details the devastating effects of the January 17th, 1995 earthquake, which was the largest earthquake to hit Japan in 70 years with a magnitude of 7.2.

While the city itself is charming, you also have the option of traveling to other Japanese travel destinations including Osaka (21 mi / 35 km), Nara (40 mi / 65 km) and Kyoto (45 mi / 70 km).  All are accessible from Kobe via an easy public transport system that is quick, simple to navigate, and affordable.

The train station, Port Terminal, is right outside the cruise port. You can map out your route ahead of time or take advantage of the visitor staff in the cruise terminal who will often have step by step handouts.

Kobe is a port that is both a destination and a gateway, and whatever you decide to do, it will surely be a highlight of your time in Japan.
