HUALIEN

Hualien lies on the eastern coast of Taiwan, and it is the island’s 8th largest city with a population of 110,000 people. The city is both culturally and geographically fascinating, and you are sure to have a memorable travel day whether you choose to head into nature or immerse yourself in the city.

The downtown district is 2 mi/ 3km from the cruise port. There you will find museums and an extensive market with food, clothes, and everything in between. Be sure to leave the ship hungry, as there is cheap, delicious street food ranging from fresh dumplings to bubble tea. A highlight that is not to be missed is A-Zone, the Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park, where you can see the works of local artists to get a glimpse of Taiwan’s modern-day culture.

For nature lovers, head to the Taroko National Park and Gorge, which is located 12 mi/ 18 km north of the city. Travelers from around the world come to marvel at the gorge's natural beauty, and there are options for adventure seekers who love hiking as well as those who want a peaceful stroll through nature. Your cruise line will likely offer a tour here, and there are also taxis drivers available for hire at the port if you wish to go on your own.

Hualien is a Taiwanese port that only receives a handful of ships a year, so be sure to plan ahead to get the most out of this exciting travel opportunity!
