HOSOSHIMA
Hososhima is the port town and fishing village that is part of the greater Hyuga City in the Miyazaki Prefecture. The city of 65,000 residents is centered around a main central station that is 2.5 mi/ 4 km from the port (shuttles are often provided), and is an ideal launch point for exploring the area.
Choosing to take a recently installed travel service similar to a Hop on Hop Off bus is a great way to see the notable points of interest in the immediate area. The route will take you along coastal roads where you can see the Umagase viewpoint, Omi Shrine, and Isagahama Beach.
Another option is to head south to the historic village of Mimitsu, which is known for its 19th century buildings and stone pavement.
The main attraction for this point of call is the Takachiho Gorge, located 42 mi / 68 km inland from the port. The gorge became a national scenic natural monument in 1933, and the Manai Falls at the end are a stunning natural attraction that draws tourists from around the world.
Hososhima is your opportunity to explore the nature of Japan, so be sure to have the cameras charged and ready!
