GENERAL SAN MARTIN (PISCO)

General San Martin is a port area on the Paracas Peninsula that serves as your gateway to exciting travel opportunities.

The closest town is Paracas, a popular resort area that is 12mi/18km away from the port. It has restaurants, beaches, and small local markets. But the main draw of Paracas is nature-focused excursions that lie beyond city lines.

For wildlife lovers, consider a trip to the Paracas National Reserve, which is often referred to as the Peruvian Galapagos. It’s home to 1,800 species of plants and animals, including spectacular birds, seals, and the rare Humboldt penguins. For more wildlife spotting opportunities, take an excursion to Islas Ballestas. The caves and archways shelter more than 1500 species of marine birds—a can’t miss for bird watchers! Another attraction in the area is “El Candelabro”, which is a giant lamp dug into rough sand.

Note: Pisco is another nearby city that tourists traveling around Peru frequent. However, travelers usually pass through Pisco as a means to reach Paracas National Reserve and Islas Ballestas. For maximizing your time, we recommend sticking to Paracas.
