COPENHAGEN

Often a starting/ending point on many Northern Europe cruise itineraries, this amazing city with its blend of modern and historic charms is definitely one you’ll want to make sure to give yourself some extra time in, either pre or post cruise.

With incredible architecture, thoughtful green spaces, world famous restaurants and the famed Danish design on full display, this city dating back to the 11th century is prime for exploring.

First things first- the cruise terminals. Yep, plural. Depending on your cruise line, or size of ship, determines where you might dock. Luckily, both locations are fairly close to the city. The Langelinie port is the closer of the two, sitting right near the famous Little Mermaid Statue, and also very close to Kastellet, the star-shaped military fortress turned museum.

The other port, the more commonly used Ocean Quay, is a little further north, with transport highly recommended when heading into the city. Taxis, public buses and Hop On/Off style tours are all options, and it is possible to walk to the closest subway station.

When it comes to sightseeing, the city has an abundance of options, from museums and galleries, to castle filled parks and shopping districts. We will try to cover as many as we can below, and the good news is most are walkable from each other, or you could do as the vast majority of the locals do, and get around on a bicycle. There are many available for rent around the city.

If your cruise is finishing up in Copenhagen, just note that the airport is 8 miles /13km from Ocean Quay, and slightly closer from Langelinie. An estimated taxi to the airport will cost between 250-300 Danish Krone ($38-45USD equivalent).
