BAR HARBOR
Bar Harbor, or Baa-Haaabaah as it’s affectionally known in these parts, is a quintessential New England town. Located on Mount Desert Island, Maine, this little town has a year round population of approximately 6,000, a number that balloons during the summer months as the seasonal workers roll into town to support the massive influx of both land and cruise tourists during that time of year.
Bar Harbor sits to the east of the island, in Frenchman’s Bay, and has the stunning backdrop of Cadillac Mountain in the Acadia National Park, where it’s summit, due to its elevation and geographic location, is the first place in the mainland United States to see the sunrise. One of the best ways to explore the park is via the 27 mile Park Loop Road.
Most visitors do come for the Acadia National Park (it has over 3 million annual visitors), however Bar Harbor itself is a major draw, with its cute shops, green spaces, and amazing food and breweries. Don’t miss out on those lobster rolls!
If you’ve visited before and are looking for something different, perhaps try out kayaking in the bay, whale watching, or if you want a unique perspective on the park, try out a helicopter tour!
